What we publish
Each brief puts what Republican leaders say and what Democratic leaders say side by side, with a middle column called the record. The record is not a third opinion. It checks specific claims against documents and data.
How a claim gets a verdict
We pick checkable claims from both sides and label each one with the same six labels.
Confirmed
Primary documents or data support the claim as it was stated.
Needs context
The claim is accurate on its face, and readers need more information to judge it.
Misleading
Part of the claim holds up, but it leaves out context that changes what it means.
Unverified
We could not find a primary source that supports or contradicts the claim yet.
Unofficial
The figure comes from a source that is not the official count, or the count is still changing.
Disputed
Credible sources or people on the same side disagree, and the evidence does not settle it.
What counts as a source
- First choice: primary documents and data, such as government statistics, court filings, bills, transcripts and official statements.
- Second: named reporting from established news outlets. We say which outlet reported each item and link to it.
- We do not treat any one outlet as the record. When we can only find a claim in one place, we say so.
- If we could not load a source, or only found one side's response, we say that on the page.
Equal treatment
- Each side gets the same number of cards, the same labels and the same sourcing bar.
- Each brief gives each side’s strongest argument, based on what its own people have said.
- We label verdicts on claims, not on parties or people.
Quotes and copyright
We quote briefly, with attribution and a link, and paraphrase the rest. We do not copy articles. If you own something we quoted and want it changed, write to us.
How we use AI
We use an AI assistant to help find sources, draft summaries and build pages. The publisher reviews each update before it is posted. AI can make mistakes, so every card links to its sources and we want to hear about errors.
Corrections
If something is wrong, we fix it at the top of the page, say what changed and keep a public log here. Report an error on the How we work page, or write to corrections@bothviewnews.com.
Corrections log
No corrections have been published yet. When we make one, it will appear here with the date, the page and what changed.
